Ty Gibbs’ breakthrough win earns 14 more Xfinity races

Joe Gibbs Racing has revealed Ty Gibbs’ full Xfinity schedule with the team for 2021, with the 18-year-old pencilled in for 14 more races this season.

The grandson of team owner and Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs, Ty impressed the masses in his first Xfinity start, winning outright and fighting at the sharp end throughout during Saturday night’s Road Course race.

Gibbs beat reigning champion Austin Cindric to the line by 1.7 seconds, having fought back from outside the top 10 at the start of overtime. Gibbs became the 6th driver to win on debut in any NASCAR sanctioned series.

Having made his point and himself hard to ignore, Gibbs will make 14 more appearances with Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity series this year. Gibbs currently runs full time in the ARCA Menards Series.

Five of the 14 outings sees Gibbs return to road courses where the youngster proved to be so adept.

“Winning this past weekend in Daytona was really a dream come true for me,” Gibbs said.

On the announcement, Ty said:

“I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel again. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I have great teams behind me in both ARCA and Xfinity and I’m so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with all of them. I’m just really excited for the rest of the year.”
